[MyTuneBD.Com] Roundtable on "Reducing Traffic Congestion in Dhaka"

Roundtable Discussion on "Reducing Traffic Congestion in Dhaka
and Improving the Transport Situation"

Dear Sir/Madam
Greetings. Traffic congestion in Dhaka is a problem of great
magnitude, from which the residents have long been suffering.
Meanwhile, many initiatives have been taken to improve the
situation. In order to reduce congestion, it is important to
improve the quality of public transport, as well as conditions for
walking and fuel-free travel.

Traffic congestion must be reduced in order to improve the country's
economic situation. Possibilities for the future must be considered
when designing plans and policies, including traffic speed, time,
expense, safety, as well as other needs of the residents, including
economic, social, and environmental.

The government has created a twenty-year Strategic Transport Plan
(STP) for Dhaka, which is still under consideration. In its current
form, adoption of STP would likely lead to increased travel time and
expense, tremendous expense for transport infrastructure, pollution
and accidents. Yet within the current STP also lies the seed for a
much improved situation. The evidence within STP suggests a process
that would lead to much improvement in the Dhaka transport system.
Before approving STP, the document should be carefully analyzed, in
order to arrive at a proper understanding of the plans and policies
needed for Dhaka's transport system. Save the Environment Movement
(POBA) is currently working to assist the government in this regard.

Save the Environment Movement (POBA) is organizing a Roundtable
Discussion on "Reducing Traffic Congestion in Dhaka and Improving
the Transport Situation" at 11 a.m. on 17 January 2008, at National
Press Club VIP Lounge.

You are cordially invited to attend this event.

Thanks
